Anxiety

Anxiety is common today, & it is not confined to only adults. Many teenagers suffer anxiety as well, & the numbers are growing.

There are different types of anxiety but the most common type we see is called Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD).

Symptoms are many & varied, ranging from agitation, nervousness, panic, tingling, fear, palpitations, chest tightness, light-headedness, dizziness, sleeplessness, muscular twitching & limb jerking, digestive disturbances, short temper, concentration & memory lapses, confusion, fatigue & loss of humour, to name a few.

Anxiety can come on suddenly, after a major event or life change, or it can be of gradual onset, occurring insidiously over many years.

Often the person is unaware of the condition, mistaking the physical symptoms for something that they perceive as life-threatening. This adds to the anxiety & can be quite frightening. Catastrophising is where “from little things big things grow”.

Sometimes the person can be so fragile & sensitive that any form of  intensity, emotional or physical, can trigger symptoms.

Over the years we have helped many people with anxiety disorders recover their balance & health in a few naturopathic consultations.

The combination of EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique), which is a technique where the person learns to tap on certain parts of the face & upper body, CBT (Cognitive Behaviour Therapy), a therapy which changes the way we perceive events in our lives, & some nutritional support invariably form a successful combination to overcome anxiety.
